LA native Barbara Sueko (first name) McGuire (last name) is a writer, a waitress, a cross-stitcher and a mother who taught writing and oral history to high schoolers in need-based schools, as well as at Rikers Island Prison. It was there that she also discovered her love for waitressing.

Barbara Sueko earned her B.A. in mass communication and French from UCLA and (after working for four years as an editor and journalist) her MFA in creative nonfiction with a focus on oral history from Sarah Lawrence College.
