First printed in 1702, this balanced eyewitness account of the Salem Village witchcraft trials (and the events leading up to them) is one of the rarest.

Written by Reverend John Hale, the main preacher in Salem since 1664 who was not only a participant in the trials, but he also attending them and prayed with the accused. He concluded with the theory that it was Satan, not the witches, who used the manipulation of objects to afflict others.
