Published in 1953 by the U.S. Department of the Army, A Pocket Guide to Anywhere was an amazingly progressive booklet of it's time, printed as reference guide for servicemen stationed overseas after WWII.

It's said that immediately following the war, American troops were welcomed, however as time went on (some 8 years later), resentment was building amongst local societies, and this little pocket guide was used explain how to acclimate to different cultures, so they would always be welcomed anywhere :)

As the introduction begins to explains...

"This is the story of Bill and Joe who are American servicemen stationed in a foreign land....Wherever it may be, Bill and Joe, like thousands of other American servicemen, find themselves for the first time among alien people, whose ways are not our ways, whose language and customs are different from ours, whose religion may be different, and who's skin may be of a different color."
